Jenna asks:

"Hi, my name is Jenna and I started my transgender journey three and a half years ago. Could use some tips on breast forms. I currently have a pair of foam filled forms and I use them with an underwire full cover bra, works OK. I wonder if there is a better option. I don't think I would like adhesive forms. The forms are sized c/d. I am 72 years old and I usually dress casual. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks."

Hannah

Hi Jenna!

I don't care for adhesive forms either, but that's not your only option. I keep my forms in pocket bras (and pocket dresses and nightgowns) and it works wonderfully. Since my forms are inserted into my bra, they move as naturally as real breasts and despite them not resting on my skin, they feel like they are part of me.

Of course, that is partially because of how REAL the forms themselves feel. You may want to consider investing in non-foam forms. They feel more natural, but they also look more natural, even under clothes.

I hope this helps!

Love, Hannah

Jules

Hi Jenna! Firstly, congrats on embracing ladyhood in your later years, and your three year transition milestone! Foam forms, whilst cheap and great for creating curves, are not designed to work with your body, and are not the comfiest. I would defo look into silicone forms, there are more pliable, feel better, and can add a lot to your look! There are so many options available, so have a think about your budget, would you want something that matches your skin? The BF store has some quizes, or breaks options down into categories, so have a look on the website. You wouldn't need adhesive forms if you have a full coverage bra, they do a good job of keeping everything in place. The only thing I would also say, is that underwire bras can sometimes puncture silicone forms if the wires get loose, so if you do go down that route, be careful and maybe invest in some wire free bras as well. Hope this helps! And that you continue to enjoy life! .x 💓

First of all, Jenna, congratulations on your journey and on embracing your true self. Three and a half years is a wonderful milestone!

It sounds like you've got something that works for you, but that doesn't mean there aren't other options. It just comes down to what is best for your lifestyle and what you'll feel the most comfortable in! If your foam-filled breast forms are comfortable, there's no reason to feel like you need to replace them. Foam forms are lightweight, breathable, and easy to wear all day without putting extra strain on your shoulders or back.

If you're curious about trying something different, silicone breast forms offer a more lifelike weight and movement that many trans women find very affirming. The good news is that not all silicone breast forms need adhesive — in fact, most of them are designed to be worn with bras, just like your foam forms. I'd recommend working with a breast form fitter who can help you find the most flattering fit for your body, but I do also have a couple suggestions to start looking at, too! Our Gold Seal Classic 2 breast forms were specifically designed with trans girls in mind, especially as breast tissue develops through HRT. The AMOLUX Crystal self-adhering breast forms are a great option (yes, even though they are self-adhering) because they have a gentle slope on the body and can feel more "mature" than perkier breast forms. AMOLUX Crystal breast forms also have fabric backings, so you do not need to adhere them to your body unless you want to, but the adhesive is meant to just prevent the breast forms from moving out of place when worn with a bra!

The third option that may have caught your attention is a silicone breastplate. Although these are really fun for cleavage, I generally don't recommend breastplates for transgender women. They can become quite warm and aren't usually the most practical choice for someone living full-time as themselves, and they're not as durable as breast forms are, since they're designed for "the look" rather than lifestyle.

Most importantly, wear what feels comfortable and gives you confidence. The best breast forms are the ones that fit your body, your lifestyle, and help you feel like yourself!

Transitioning to silicone forms or exploring options like pocket bras can elevate your everyday silhouette while keeping things soft, secure, and effortless — no adhesives required! We hope these tips offer helpful guidance for anyone looking to step away from basic foam forms and explore more natural-feeling alternatives. Every stage of the journey is worth celebrating, and choosing pieces that work with your lifestyle is key to feeling like your most authentic self. Have questions of your own or need advice on navigating your transition? Send them in to The Powder Room — we are always here to support you!
