The Powder Room: DD Dreams

Every girl’s journey to feeling confident and fabulous is unique, and sometimes it’s the little details — like the right bra size — that make all the difference. Finding a cup size that complements your frame can help you feel both comfortable and stunning, whether you want a subtle enhancement or a fuller, bustier look.

This week in The Powder Room, we’re answering a reader question that hits right at the heart of sizing concerns:

“Do you think a DD bra is too big for a thinner frame?”

Tammi

Tammi says…
I assume you are talking about DD breast forms and not just the bra. If that’s the case, I think it would depend on what you are Looking to achieve. If thin framed large breasted women turn you on, then by all means, go for it! But if you are looking for something a little bit more realistic or passable then I would recommend a more proportionate size to your frame.

These days I most commonly wear an E cup breastplate and while I’m not exactly skinny, putting one on for the first time did actually make me second guess whether that was too big. The secret to making a bigger plate work is to make sure you also balance the lower half of your body, so the breasts appear to be a natural size. Corsets and shapewear for cinching the waist and hip pads or padded pants for adding some curves really help! If you go big, be sure to go all the way, I say!

I think it all depends what look your going for .. also even though your thin if your a taller girl you might be able to pull off wearing DD’s .. im a small framed girl im 5’6″ and i weigh about 135 lbs ,, sometimes i wear my wifes bras she is a 38DDD .. and it looks like i have giant boobs… like i said it all depends on the look your trying to get.. normally i stick to my 38C pushups when i dress ,, it gives me a more realistic look.

If you’re going for more discreet passable it can be a little bustier and draw some attention. But true afab have different sized bodies which happens, it’s the beauty of being human. We all come in different shapes and sizes!

Linda

Linda says…
Definitely yes this is way too big.

Jules

Jules says…
It might draw some attention to you and look disproportionate, but if thats the look you want go for it! You may want to invest in some lighter forms containing foam or silicone, if you are planning to wear this bra for long periods, as bigger boobs put a strain on your back, more so if you are slim!

Creating a top-heavy look — or really any look you’re aiming for — comes down more to the size you choose in your breast forms than the exact style. The key is knowing your bra band size, so you can select the right cup size to achieve the silhouette you want. If you have a thinner frame, here’s a general idea of how different cup sizes might look with the right band:

  • B cup — proportionate to your frame
  • C cup — still proportionate, but a touch fuller
  • D cup — starting to get bustier
  • DD cup — noticeably busty
  • DDD, F, or G cups — super-busty, starting to feel top-heavy
  • H, I, J, or K cups — definitely top-heavy!

If your goal is to be top-heavy without going into Dolly Parton territory, I’d suggest an F or G cup for your frame. A DD cup can still create a busty, eye-catching look, but it won’t feel overwhelming.

Breastplates are also fantastic if you want to show off cleavage — and a fuller cup size usually gives you that naturally. Here are a few of my favorites to check out:

No matter your frame, choosing the right bra size is all about finding what makes you feel confident, comfortable, and naturally feminine. A DD cup can be bold and beautiful on a thinner frame — it’s really about how you want your silhouette to feel and look.

The Powder Room is here to help you explore your options, experiment with different sizes, and discover what makes you feel your most radiant self.
