The Powder Room: Sculpting a Feminine Figure

The Powder Room: Sculpting a Feminine Figure

The Breast Form Store |

Welcome back to the Powder Room! This week, we are returning to a topic we explore often, but there is always more to say — how to achieve a feminine figure without relying on surgery or permanent methods of gender-affirming care.

For many in our community, femininity isn't just about clothing, hair, or makeup — it's also about silhouette and how the physical form takes up space in the world. This is where the beauty of body-shaping tools and strategic styling comes in. They offer an incredible, temporary way to sculpt a feminine look without the permanent commitment of surgical changes, giving you the complete freedom to experiment on your own terms.

Today’s question comes from Anthony (who is Emily when dressed):

Hi everyone! My name is Anthony (but when I’m Emily when I crossdress) I’m looking for some advice — how can I get my body to look more feminine without going through a sex change? I’d love to know your best tips for achieving a more feminine shape and look through things like styling or other non-surgical methods!

Jules

Hi Anthony, and helllooo Emily *hugs*! When it comes to looking more fem, the options are limitless, no surgery required! If you are looking to switch in between genders, a great start is getting some fem clothes, which are so much better and have much more variety than mens, I struggle to go back sometimes! Next is getting yourself all curved up, some boobs, some shapewear to cinch the waist, and or pads for that waist/ booty (we can help you there 😉). Men are actually encouraged to go hair free these days, so you can be a happy smooth seal, and wigs add so much to your look. Finally a face of makeup and your good to go. All of this would vary depending on your size/ shape, your skintone, and you, so go for it, have fun! I'm so excited for your glam journey! .x ❤️

Hi Emily!

Femininity is a personal perspective. It's not up to anyone else to decide what is or is not feminine. You get to choose that.

There are a variety of options that you can consider.

  • A smooth body. Shaving your legs (and anything else that you please) feels divine.
  • Painted nails. A fun splash of color can be flirty and sexy
  • Women have bodies of all different shapes and sizes. There's not a single woman on the planet that is too tall, too shapely, too ANYTHING to be feminine. Essentially there is no standard for a feminine shape. I feel the key to presentation is feeling confident and happy with what you wear. I feel that wearing clothes that fit properly is key to this, and many clothes that are designed for women are done so with certain proportions in mind. Blouses are generally designed for a woman's bust or for her frame. I might fit into a blouse (or anything else) but that doesn't mean I look good in it. Oftentimes I go up a size so I have more room for my shoulders (which are broader than the shoulders of some cisgender women). Same with dresses. Dresses are typically designed for someone with hips and some dresses (such as sheath dresses and bodycon dresses) just hang on me. If I want a more shapely figure (again, women do not have to have a shapely figure to be feminine) a properly cinched corset, hip/thigh/butt pads, and breast forms give me a more shapely figure which allows some outfits to look better on me than others.

Again, a woman does not have to look a certain way to be a woman and clothes for women can be a nightmare when it comes to inconsistent and nonsensical sizing. Wear what you want, wear what makes you feel like the unforgettable goddess that you are.

Hi Anthony (and Emily)! That's awesome you're exploring this—lots of people successfully achieve a convincing feminine presentation through non-surgical methods. Results vary based on your starting body type, age, and genetics, but with consistent effort, you can create a noticeably more feminine silhouette and look. Here's the best tips:

  1. Use foam or silicone hip pads and butt pads (available from thebfstore )These give instant hourglass hips and a rounder butt.

  2. A good padded bra or breast forms (silicone is best for realism and weight). Pair with a push-up or mastectomy bra for cleavage. High-waisted skirts, A-line dresses, and peplum tops emphasize hips and hide broader shoulders. Invest in a good quality lace-front or monofilament wig in a feminine style (shoulder-length often flattering).

  3. Glutte-focused workouts: Squats, hip thrusts, lunges, donkey kicks (3–4x/week). Add resistance bands.

There’s lots of support and resources online once you find out what you’re looking to do. For some of us the biggest problem is lacking the curves in the right places or just a little over weight. I think you would have to self reflect and create a goal of what you want to achieve. I’ve done some really good programs to help target areas, whether it's building a bigger butt/hips or toning arms. Then making sure you’re getting the proper macros is so important.

Secondly never underestimate the power of shapewear and padding. A corset plus hip pads(I love myDivine Collection Jolie thigh pads. And I swap between a breast plate or the Heras. It gives you shape but also the feeling and weight.

The combos give a great shape to that elusive hourglass figure!

Hey Emily, thanks for reaching out to ask for some advice!

First of all, I want you to know that creating a more traditionally feminine or hourglass figure is entirely customizable. There is no single “right” way to look feminine, and you absolutely do not need surgery or a sex change to explore and express your femininity. Some girls love a soft, glamorous bombshell look with dramatic curves, while others feel most feminine in something delicate, elegant, playful, or understated. Your vision of a perfect silhouette may mean petite curves, or it could mean a pear figure, but no matter what your vision is, know that it's a perfectly valid and acceptable version of femininity, as long as you love it! The beauty of femininity is that you get to define what it means for you.

If your goal is specifically to create the appearance of a more traditional hourglass figure, there are so many non-surgical ways to achieve that illusion. Foundation garments and shaping pieces can make an enormous difference. Breast forms and breastplates can create curves through the bustline and help clothing drape more naturally across the chest, while hip padding can add softness and width through the hips to balance the shoulders and waist. A properly fitted steel-boned corset can further define the waistline and create that classic curvy silhouette many people associate with old Hollywood glamour. (They're my favorite secret weapon for a feminine figure!) These kinds of shaping tools allow you to experiment with proportions and discover what makes you feel the most confident, beautiful, and feminine.

Clothing also plays a huge role in feeling that you have a more feminine figure. The secret is not trying to force your body into trends, but learning which feminine styles flatter your particular proportions. A-line skirts, wrap dresses, peplum tops, belts worn at the natural waist, structured jackets, and high-waisted bottoms can all help emphasize curves and create balance between the shoulders, waist, and hips. Even small details like necklines, sleeve shapes, and fabric textures can dramatically change how curvy and feminine an outfit appears on your body. Consider working with a stylist to find the best look to flatter your body!

But femininity is not just about clothing or curves. A huge part of appearing feminine comes from how you carry yourself. Feminine posture can instantly soften your overall appearance: standing tall (even if that feels counter-intuitive), relaxing the shoulders, moving with gentleness and intention, and slowing down your movements slightly can create a graceful, feminine energy without changing anything physical at all. Sometimes the smallest changes in posture, body language, and confidence make the biggest visual difference.

I also think it helps to intentionally connect with your feminine energy beyond appearance alone. Many people focus entirely on "looking feminine" while forgetting that feeling feminine internally often changes how naturally femininity comes across externally. (I have a whole Udemy course on this!) Mannerisms, confidence, self-expression, and emotional comfort all play a role. Taking time to explore that side of yourself — whether through fashion, makeup, movement, journaling, or even a bubble bath — can help you feel more authentic and comfortable in your presentation rather than feeling like you are simply the dreaded "a man in a dress."

And never underestimate the power of feminine details. Long nails,  soft perfume, delicate jewelry, glossy lips, styled hair, beautiful lingerie, or even a simple bracelet can completely transform how feminine you feel in your day-to-day life. Often it is those little finishing touches that make someone feel polished, graceful, and truly connected to themselves.

If there is one thing this week’s Powder Room has proven, it’s that there is no single "right" way to cultivate a feminine presentation. The beauty of non-surgical methods lies entirely in their flexibility. Whether you are stepping into a gym to naturally build up your lower half, utilizing high-quality padding and corsetry to sculpt instant curves, or simply mastering the art of a perfectly tailored A-line dress, you have total control over your look.

Every transformation is unique, and it often takes a bit of playful experimentation to find the exact combination of styling, shapewear, and personal care that makes you feel the most confident. The journey to discovering your silhouette should be fun, empowering, and completely on your own terms.
